Who We Are:
Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) (www.dotrust.org) is a Canadian-based non-profit that works in 13 countries, supporting youth to become innovators and leaders, and to create and apply digital solutions that have positive impact in their communities. DOT works with youth, the private sector, governments, and community-based organizations towards a collaborative vision of communities around the world shaped by daring social innovators.
We are looking for a part-time CFO to join DOT for a minimum 6-month term. This is a strategic C-suite leadership role created during a time of unprecedented transformation, transition and development – with the goal to build and support current and future revenue growth. The part-time CFO will oversee all aspects of financial operations, including headquarters (Ottawa) and international staff. The overarching role will be to ensure adherence to corporate financial management, control and reporting policies and procedures and that contractual financial milestones are met, particularly with respect to large scale Government of Canada grants.
This role demands a sophisticated understanding of financial investments, planning, forecasting and risk management. The CFO will need to demonstrate the ability to analyze and budget in a multi-program, multi-currency setting. This role requires confidence in managing internal and external partnerships and reporting relationships. The CFO will be entrusted with identifying, developing, implementing and monitoring internal systems and controls including procurement policies and grants. The CFO will support the CEO with respect to reporting and responding to the Board of Directors and relevant Board committees.
As the successful candidate, you are both a leader and team player, with demonstrated strong interpersonal and intercultural skills that will ensure rapport with DOT’s diverse global staff. You are strategic, with the ability to translate new opportunities into strategy. You are results driven and motivated by a high sense of personal performance expectations. You possess a strong spirit for community service and share DOT’s passion for the role of youth and women in creating a better world.
What else are we looking for?
This is a complex job requiring diverse skills and experience. The successful candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business and a CPA designation with 8-10 years’ experience in progressively more complex leadership roles. You are highly experienced in project accounting, financial reporting and statutory reporting. You are experienced with cloud-based accounting systems as DOT is a user of the Intacct system. Knowledge of the CRA requirements for charities and the implication of foreign exchange in financial reporting is a valuable and desirable asset. An entrepreneurial attitude with the ability to be hands-on is a necessity. Experience working in a global organization, such as an international NGO or corporation with international operations, is not a requirement but would be beneficial. The successful candidate will possess the ability to work with cross-cultural field offices with an appreciation of cultural sensitivities.
DOT offers competitive compensation and flexible working arrangements within an environment of trust and respect. You will have an opportunity to make a real difference in the world and the opportunity to work with a dynamic and diverse global team committed to youth and women’s empowerment as part of a system change.
We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
DOT is an equal opportunity employer and accommodates people with disabilities throughout the recruitment and selection process.
