CIDA

As a global partner, CIDA continues to provide to the implementation and sustainability of DOT programs at a global level. Following CIDA’s financial contribution to DOT’s implementation in the Middle East in 2002, including a successful tourism program in Jordan, the CIDA Partnership Branch also provided significant funding to launch DOT Africa in 2005.   Recently, CIDA has sponsored the Income Generation Through ICT for Development project in Lebanon.  The project reflects CIDA’s heightened commitment to initiatives that are part of a broader development plan, locally owned and developed and supported by a coordinated effort among donor organizations.   The initiative contributes to one of CIDA’s reconstruction priorities in the area of socio-economic development in Lebanon.  The Income Generation Through ICT for Development project will also help to leverage relationships with the Lebanese and international private sector to effect lasting change at the community level.
 

DOT will continue to maximize the investments made by CIDA to our work by adapting and localizing our entrepreneurial program globally.

As our founding sponsor, Cisco has proven its understanding that good ideas aren’t enough to make things happen. Achieving innovation takes leadership, investment and the passion to see it all through. Cisco has partnered with DOT in the Middle East, Africa and the United States demonstrating  a leading commitment to economic and educational advancement of disadvantaged communities.

PARTNERSHIP FOR LEBANON

In September 2006, five US corporations came together to assist the reconstruction efforts in Lebanon and to help the people of Lebanon find the path to long-term stability and economic growth. These five companies are: Cisco, Intel, Microsoft, Occidental Petroleum, and Ghafari Construction.  This three year, joint venture commitment is called the Partnership for Lebanon (PFL) initiative.

The PFL started fifteen ambitious projects in the areas of crisis relief and response; education, professional development and internships; private sector revival; ICT infrastructure; and connected government and communities.  Recently, the PFL contributed funding to DOT to implement a Connected Communities and Business Initiative (CCBI) which will bring economic and social benefits to communities in Lebanon.  This funding also leverages an additional grant by Cisco and builds activities and expected results of the Income Generation Through ICT for Development project.

YMCA of LEBANON

The YMCA of Lebanon has worked for over 30 years in development activities aimed at ensuring sustainable growth of livelihoods in Lebanon. The YMCA’s commitment towards serving the Lebanese, equally on a non-partisan basis, is one of the cornerstones of the operation in the country, making of the organization a national secular body capable of addressing the needs of communities irrespective of their affiliations.

The YMCA of Lebanon has been heavily involved in the alleviation of the dire impacts of the July 2006 war and its aftermath. It engaged in reconstruction services, assistance to SMEs, agricultural development, environmental preservation, youth empowerment, medical assistance and support to women’s associations.

Working in partnership with DOT, the YMCA of Lebanon participated in the implementation of the highly successful 2003-4 NetCorps Lebanon Community Tourism project.  Building on the inspiring results of the pilot initiative, DOT and the YMCA are now working in partnership to implement another innovative, community-based project – Income Generation Through ICT for Development sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). 

The new initiative directly supports the YMCA’s commitment to the serve the Lebanese communities and is highly consistent with the organizational drive to ensure provision of long term opportunities to the marginalized and vulnerable.

SHABAKAT AL ORDON

Shabakat Al Ordon is a not-for-profit limited liability company incorporated in Jordan in 2005 with a mission to drive and implement transformational strategies that improve the economic and social well-being of local communities.

In 2002, the original NetCorps Jordan program was created as a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MOICT), the Queen Zein Al-Sharaf Institute for Development (ZENID), and the Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT). Formally launched in July 2003 by HM King Abdullah II, the program was incubated with the assistance of an extensive network of program partners. In July 2005, the program was spun-off as an independent national entity with the support of the USAID-funded AMIR program and CISCO Systems.

Shabakat Al Ordon centers its strategies on local youth, who are enabled with technical, professional and facilitation skills in order to empower people, build communities of practice, and incubate initiatives that respond to their community needs through the integration of information and communication technologies in their day-to-day lives.
