by Emily Marks last modified 2009-05-04 20:26

On April 27th in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, IBM announced the arrival in China of its first team of experts under its global Corporate Service Corps (CSC) program. CSC is a leadership development program in which IBM experts from diverse backgrounds are selected to experience the cultural and business environments in high priority developing markets. These IBM leaders volunteer their services to assist local organizations to establish innovative ICT strategies and solve complex challenges. Participants are selected from throughout the IBM world and are mobilized in teams of 9 who work together with their hosts during a 4-week deployment.  Sichuan is the first CSC location in China and 3 teams will be deployed in 2009, the first of which arrived on April 26th.

DOT is honored to have been selected by IBM as a Global Implementation Partner for the CSC programs in Sichuan, Turkey and Egypt. DOT has organized a challenging program focused on 3 sectors: ICT Outsourcing, Modern Logistics and SME Development - all priorities for the economic development of Sichuan. The IBM experts will work with counterparts in the Chengdu Chamber of Commerce, Chengdu Commerce Bureau, the Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone and other government and industry offices.

Mme. Bao Hui, Senior Official representing the Government of Chengdu, thanked IBM for its support of Sichuan and sees win-win benefits for both parties.

Mr. Guo RenSheng, General Manager of IBM Western China, reinforced IBM's commitment to support the disaster-stricken area and the transformation of local industries and the upgrading of the technological infrastructure.

Mr. Liu Zhanguo, Secretary of the Chengdu Industry and Commerce Association, said the IBM volunteers, with their different skills and ideas, will provide great value to local companies.

Frank Shi, DOT China Regional Executive, stated that the DOT-IBM partnership will help the electronic information industry, modern logistics, and small to medium-sized enterprise to both develop and establish international linkages.

The wide media coverage is evidence of the importance that Sichuan places on the program. The launch was reported on local television, in the newspapers and in the business journals.
