Michael and Mitchell Lloyd
Michael and Mitchell Lloyd, both 20, joined the TeachUp! Team for the 2008-2009 school year. The “Twinterns” both applied for positions as TeachUp! Interns and hoped for the best. They were thrilled when they found out they had both been chosen.
“I applied first and forwarded the email to my brother,” said Michael Lloyd. Michael jokes that he wasn’t surprised to find out both he and his brother had been chosen for the program, “He is always trying to be like me.”
Mitchell Lloyd says that growing up he and Michael were like any other kids and although they are twin brothers they are very different from each other. “We always played on the same baseball team, football team, and basketball team with my dad coaching all of them,” said Mitchell. Michael and Mitchell are originally from Meridian, Mississippi. They have two other siblings, a brother and a sister.
“I have been asked the ‘Are you all twins’ question a couple of thousand times, ” said Michael. Mitchell agreed, “That question has gotten so old over the years.” Both Michael and Mitchell admit to finding some entertainment in the question. “Sometimes we have a little fun with people by saying ‘no’ or acting like we don’t even know each other,” said Mitchell.
Both Michael and Mitchell attend the University of Southern Mississippi. Michael is majoring in Industrial Engineering Technology, and Mitchell is an Architectural Engineering Technology major.
Michael and Mitchell have both been placed in TeachUp! Schools in Mississippi and have already started working hard to make a difference. Michael is working was working with Purvis Middle School but was recently reassigned to Burger Middle School, and Mitchell was placed with Oak Grove Upper Elementary.
Michael is anxious to get into his new school and begin working with the teachers there. Mitchell is busy creating a page at schoolnotes.com. Many of the teachers at his school have pages on schoolnotes.com. By having his own account, Mitchell will be able to link to the teachers’ pages, spreading information as well as giving needed technology help.
The Lloyd brothers look forward to continuing their work within their respective schools and hope that this Twinternship will have Lamar County and DOT USA seeing double the success.
