Partners
DOT Ethiopia works with different partner organizations. Currently, DOT Ethiopia has 13 partners: Addis Bits and Ethiopian Women’s Export Association (EWEA) and community partners Addis Ababa Youth Association (AAYA), Chillanchile Anti AIDS Association, Hope for Children, Music May Day, SOS head office, SOS Social Center Bahir dar, SOS TVET, Talent Youth Association, Tsalke and integrated development association, Wise and YWCA.
Here is a sample of our new partners and initiatives:
- The Organization for Women in Self Employment (WISE) and DOT Ethiopia have begun discussing a future partnership. WISE is an indigenous non governmental organization established in 1997 to empower women economically and socially. WISE has worked directly with 10,000 women over the last 10 years whose livelihoods depend on home based and small scale trading activities. Our first training began with all women and we are looking forward to their continued partnership.
- YWCA has recently agreed to offer our ReachUp! to their all women soccer teams. Training will begin in July and we working are with them to secure funding for a computer lab for future training and development.
- Hope for Children in Ethiopia (HCE) helps extremely poor children and children who are engaged in child labour with their different needs. They should be able to improve their living conditions and to live a stable life. This help includes financial and material support, medical help, counseling services and education. DOT Ethiopia is working with HCE to set up computers in 10 of their home-based care facilities for orphaned children. Each residence received a donated computer and DOT Ethiopia’s Interns are working in each home to make the most of these computers, the only resource for the children living in these homes. Our Interns are excited by the possibilities and learning opportunities that will be offered once the program is up and running in a few months.
- AddisBits is a youth-based initiative sponsored by Butterfly Works in the Netherlands. AddisBits is based on the program, NairoBits, founded in Kenya in1999. The pilot aims to emerge as a community leader for using ICT to improve the lives of youth from the non formal settlements. The pilot program will take five months. Once established, it takes a year and focuses on training youth in applied web design closely linked with the business community.
- Cherokee Gives Back is a foundation active around the globe and takes a holistic approach on several key program areas, including: Health, Blighted Real Estate, Job Creation, Poverty Relief, Education, and Orphan Care and Adoption. In Ethiopia, Cherokee Gives Back focuses on non-formal education and economic growth. Cherokee volunteers will be working with our Interns to strengthen their micro-enterprise projects, broaden their experiences and support our group home initiative.
