IBM Corporate Service Corps Program
The IBM Corporate Service Corps (CSC) Program is integrated with IBM's global business strategy and is intended to help enhance global economic and social development and build the leadership skills of IBM employees as global citizens. The CSC program focuses on several priority issues: 1) Economic Development and Innovation; 2) Access to ICT; 3) Raising Global Standards in Education; 4) Broadening Cultural Awareness and; 5) Promoting Openness and Transparency; among others.
IBM's Corporate Service Corps gathers teams of IBM Leaders with a diversity of skills, drawn from different countries and business units and places them in emerging markets to tackle important social and economic issues in collaboration with NGO partners from around the world. These IBM Leaders work on projects of significant value in developing countries, in four-week assignments. These teams tackle real societal, educational and economic challenges, while at the same time experiencing a diverse cultural perspective and enhancing their skills and leadership competencies.
DOT has been selected by IBM as a global implementation partner for the CSC program and is working in partnership with IBM in Turkey, China and Egypt. Under the 2009 CSC Egypt program, the first team of 10 IBM leaders were deployed to Luxor, in Upper Egypt, in October 2009. The Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Investment was the key local host organisation and CSC assignments supported the government's mandate to improve internal trade, with a focus on Upper Egypt, and to address national goals – to formalize and better integrate Luxor's informal markets while also supporting national gender inclusion objectives. IBM Leaders worked directly with the Internal Trade Development Authority, the Information Decision Support Centre and local stakeholders in Luxor to share their expertise in areas such as strategic planning, supply chain management, information technology, project management and business development.
What’s Next
Building on the impressive results of its Small & Medium Businesses (SMEs) pilot program implemented in 2004, DOT is currently mobilizing a partnership network to support the national roll-out of entrepreneurial and SME programs. DOT is also exploring opportunities to introduce its education program in Egypt.
