A brief description of a success story from Hattiesburg High School.

Name of Technology Used: Smartboard

Name of Intern: Gregory Reeves II

School Name and Location:  Hattiesburg Public High School,Hattiesburg, Mississippi

Describe the Success Story:

I was walking around my school and noticed that the 10th -12th grade life sciences teacher had just obtained a smartboard. She actually had her students put the board together, but when they reached the point of installation, they could not install the software due to lack of administrative privileges. So I went into the classroom and installed the smartboard software and was basically bombarded by questions from the students.

How did this activity/project benefit the teachers, students and the school?

I ended up showing the teacher and students scholarship information on the internet, and showing the interactivity with the smartboard, as well as basic features on the use.

What (skills, knowledge or attitude) did you as an Intern learn from this experience?

One thing I learned from the event was that the students really wanted to learn how the technology works, and that if they are engaged, could learn anything. The only thing I regret about the experience is not having more information to give. Some advice I would give a new Intern, or teachers in general is that visual/hands-on items work best.
