Images and Clip Art on the Web
Free Images to Spice Things Up (December 2007)
Digital images and clip art can be assets in creating visually appealing and engaging digital documents, including newsletters, worksheets, handouts, and presentations. A word of caution. Just because an image is on the Internet does not mean you can automatically use it.
Copying and Saving Images
If you have a link in you web browser to a picture (or any file) that you would like to save, you can simply right click on the link and select “Save Target As...”. In some web browsers you will need to select “Save Link As...” instead.
If the actual image is currently loaded in your web browser, you should first right click on the image. If you want to save a copy of the file to your computer, you can select “Save Picture As...”. However, if you just want to put the image in some type of document, then you can select “Copy” and then paste the image into your document.
Google Image Search
Google Image Search (http://images.google.com) uses Google's search technology to find images. You simply type in a description of an image you would like and Google displays a page of preview images. When you find one that you like, you can click on the preview and then click on the link that says, “See full-size image.”
Wikipedia
Yes, the free, web-based, collaborative encyclopedia has a number of images that anyone can use, since many of Wikipedia's articles contain pictures. First, go to the Wikipedia website, http://www.wikipedia.org, and search for an article. Once you have found an article with a picture that you like, click on the picture. Next, you will be brought to a page that contains a larger preview of the image and additional information about it. If you then click on the picture again, you will load the full size image.
Clip Art Websites
Here are a couple of additional websites that I have found, which contain clip art. Both of these websites only contain clip art that is in the Public Domain, so you are free to do anything that you want with the files.
