REACHUP! - SCALEUP! - TEACHUP!

As a foundation skill, technology opens new worlds of opportunity and levels the playing field. We believe that the key is to make technology meaningful and relevant to people’s day-to-day lives. Learning how to apply technology depends on being supported by people who understand how knowledge grows.

The four main components of our community based beneficiary programs are:

  • Business / Entrepreneurship content delivered with a relevant and localized industry context
  • Hands on exposure to a variety of ICT applications designed to connect with the business content.
  • Technology project application – learners link the programs to practice by designing projects that apply their knowledge in ways that make technology work for them.
  • Linkage to resources to help participants make their vision a reality – might be micro credit, technology services or government programs

ReachUp!

ReachUp! supports a country’s marginalized groups, including women, youth, the un- and underemployed, rural and remote communities, to lead themselves out of poverty by increasing their understanding of the personal significance of ICT and increasing their use of technology, both as employability skills and as tools for communication and research. DOT Interns facilitate a curriculum which helps participants understand opportunity structures in the local community, leverage ICT for personal and professional growth, and create a career path. The ultimate goal of the program is to create sustainable livelihoods and an entrepreneurial approach to life.

ScaleUp!

ScaleUp! targets the entrepreneur who has a specific product or service s/he wants to market, the micro or small business that wants to expand its scope with specific products or services or the business professional looking to expand his/her career horizons within an organization.  Community participants learn & debate what it takes to be an entrepreneur and perform an initial high level validation of their business idea.  With the support of community experts and their Interns they complete a solid business plan and then are formally linked to financial institutions for micro credit where required. ScaleUp! can be a follow-on to ReachUp! or stands on its own with an eager audience of business professionals who have a good idea for a new business or service.

TeachUp!

TeachUp! supports teachers and schools in harnessing ICT to provide exceptional educational opportunities and improved learning outcomes for elementary, middle and high school students. DOT Interns work in partnership with teachers and school personnel to integrate ICT into classroom activities, school-wide technology projects, and community outreach initiatives. Through TeachUp!, DOT is working to transform the approach to learning, creating a new education model that improves the quality of education, prepares students with 21st century skills, and creates a foundation for economic opportunities.
