INITIAL EXPERIENCES IN 'RU' PROGRAME

by Isaac Masaluvu last modified 2009-05-09 12:38

It has been a cocktail of excitements, challenges and surprises.

In these early stages of the programe my experience has been quite a mix.We set off with six participants, but in the following few days the number tripled due to our advocacy efforts.Currently we are running two sessions daily (one group daily mornings and two others alternating in the afternoons). In total we have twenty nine participants, with five others lined up for training as the list grows. The participants are aged between 18yrs to 60yr old, mixed gender, employed/ unemployed and all community members, this came as a surprise.

I attribute the success to the efforts i enlisted with the  Manager in my resource center the board ,public figures eg. chiefs, pastors, councilors etc and the participants themselves.

The challenges called in after the success, since i realized we could not handle the numbers with a limited number of computers as ours(5),plus lack of internet connectivity in the center and around.

All in all i have come to appreciate the challenges especially, they train me on dealing with real issues. My business ideas are in for an over haul thanks to my participants.

Isaac, this description of your training is very interesting to read. You describe a real challenge very well - a low number of participants. Then you give a great description of how your entire community worked together to increase the number of participants. Okay- so now you have another challenge - few computers - but what you show is that you and your community do a good job overcoming challenges! I know you will figure out how to manage the computer problem. Thanks very much for being a DOT Kenya ReachUp Intern, and using your skills so well.

Keep on moving!

I cannot remember the whole story now, but I have the content that there used to be a experiment, a scientist first time put a frog directly into boiled water, the frog escaped; the second time, the scientist put the frog into a warm water, the heating the water slowly, then the frog been well cooked. How this tell us is, an easy life will cause us take things as they come, only adversity leads to prosperity.
