For Good or for Bad

by Henry Nyandiko last modified 2009-08-05 10:56

And the two became one - a long, long time ago.

A man and a woman walk into the faccilitation room, I have just started introducing Reach Up to a new group of participants and I wondered if the two really is part of that group.

I introduce myself and enquire whether we should sail in the same boat. "Ofcourse", from the lady. I then take a few minutes to understand the new participants. They are in their late fourties and early fifties, are farmers near a local town and are both excited to learn how to apply the "magic" of information technology to their farming business and above all that, they are a husband and a wife, married for over twenty years now.

I wanted to know if that fact should make me have different sessions for them. "Not neccessary", again from the lady. She jokingly adds that the man has been and is the leader in most thing in their business and family and she wants an opportunity to show her ability to learn new skills-probably better than the husband.

The session was very interesting and guess what, that lady learns faster than the husband (I hope the husband won't read this, but if he does - no ills intended sir.)

And here they are... got to go.

Interesting!

On reading your story, I feel puzzled at first. But then I get to understand. Indeed, information technology is also helpful in farming business.
Your experience is new for me. As for me, I mainly coach the teachers. We are at different region , but in the same boat: Dot family.
Looking forward to hearing your good news.

Oh!

Sorry, I didn't mean to puzzle you, but as you have noticed in your region and area of delivery, we meet really interesting people and situations.

Family Businesses

Hi Henry, your story showed how valuable technology can be to a family business, like a farm. It's also exciting to hear about a middle-aged couple seeing the magic in technology. They must be really fun to have in your training.

Sure

Even more so that the notion of "what the man knows is enough" in the community is changing from the most unlikely quaters.

My English is not good enough to express my thoughts exactly, but I want to say that our DOT family is supporting you all the time. And it will support many areas in remote places. You know you are doing a very splendid thing. So come on, boy, all the things will be best. We all believe in you!! Look forward to you!!

That's Nice

The English you have used is good enough for me to understand what/how you feel. Here in Kenya we are proud to be a unit in the family that impacts the society so much. Lest I forget, let me say asante sana, (google that), to the "Big Brothers" and the "Small Brothers" - and sisters for your shared experiences, we gain alot from them.
