I’m a graduate of Moi University with a Bachelor of Education. I joined DOT earlier this year as an intern. I have a passion of serving the community, more so the disenfranchised in the society. Because of my passion and interests in matters affecting the community positively, I hoped to work with an organisation which is community based. And indeed the DOT internship was a God send as it stands for the same vision of touching the disfranchised in the society.

My work as a facilitator of the Reach!Up! programme at Ogada Secondary School (in partnership with Computers for Schools Kenya) has been successful. Being a problem-solver, coupled with good interpersonal skills have enabled me to cope with several challenges in life especially in the work place and in the society at large. I stand on the belief that “The only time you ever have in which to learn anything or see anything or feel anything, or express any feelings or emotion, or respond to an event, or grow, or heal, is this moment, because this is the only moment any of us gets. You’re only here now; you’re only alive in this moment.” I therefore try to do my best with each moment I have been blessed with.

Working at Ogada CFSK has been very challenging in that getting new participants for ReachUp! every month hasn’t been an easy task. But I always believed that “our attitudes control our lives and that the surest way to get to one’s heart and affect it is only through one-on-one interaction with the person by selling to him/her the idea of the effect”.

So far, I have trained 60 participants of whom 35 have started sustainable livelihood projects while 12 have secured job opportunities applying the ICT and Entrepreneurship skills in ventures such as M-pesa dealerships (a service by one mobile service provider to send money through the mobile phone), printing bureaux, shops and other businesses.

During this period I’ve had an opportunity to develop and improve on various skills and competencies which include leadership i.e. relationship building, team contribution and role development; project management, facilitation, coaching, conducting research and advocacy. My ICT skills have also been improved. I uphold the virtues of discipline, self respect, responsibility, honest, obedience, hard work and time consciousness as these attitudes gear one towards success.

Being in the DOT community is very interesting. It is a good opportunity for young graduates since it enables us to fit anywhere in the world as the ground is well cemented to help us change our attitudes and views about life.

And lastly I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning.  For this brings happiness and joy to my life.
